Misidentified for years as a native California species (C. tumulicola), this Eurasian sedge has proved to be widely adaptable and useful in California gardens. It makes spreading hummocks, usually under 1 foot tall, with arching deep green, very narrow leaves. One of the best sedges for ground cover, it will tolerate sun or shade and some drought as well as wet soils.
