Popular dwarf barberry has deep purplish red leaves and grows to about 2 feet high. Stiff stems hold oval leaves and sharp spines. Clusters of small yellow flowers dot the plants in summer. Useful as a low hedge. Best in full sun or light shade and most soils, with moderate to occasional watering when established.
