An apparent garden hybrid of S. mellifera (the native black sage), this hybrid was selected by Charles Christiansen. It is initially prostrate but can eventually form a broad mound up to 3 feet high. The leaves are deep green, textured and aromatic like those of Salvia mellifera, and the flowers are carried in the same interrupted clusters. They are cream-white in color.
