Native from Alaska to California, salmonberry is a thicketing shrub of moist slopes. Prickly stems are erect to arching; spring flowers are bright pink. Fruits resemble blackberries, but mature to a light red color. They are attractive to birds and mammals. As it spreads readily in fertile soil, this shrub is not recommended for small gardens. Cool sun to shade, moderate water.
