Western azalea is a twiggy shrub of 6 foot or more, with greater spread, often making dense thickets. The 3-4 inch deep green leaves are rather narrow, deeply veined and flushed purple in new growth. Round clusters of flaring white blossoms, with a yellow blotch on each petal, open in late spring and early summer. They have a sweet, heavy fragrance which fills the air around them. Fall color is especially vivid in this seed strain. Sun to part shade, well-drained soil, regular to moderate watering.
