One of the most easily grown of the California native iris, Iris douglasiana has been used extensively in the Pacific Coast hybrids. It forms compact clumps with evergreen, arching leaves. Spring flowers in this selection are blue purple and narrower in petal than the Pacifica hybrids. Sun or part shade, reasonably well drained soil, moderate to little watering when established. Hardy to 15 degrees F. or less.
