'Bert Johnson' is a selection of this typically matting species from the central California coast, introduced by the Tilden Botanical Garden. It makes almost perfectly flat mats unless overcrowded. The stems are crowded with small greyish green leaves, bronze in new growth. The small flowers are white with a slight pink tinge. Sun, well drained soil, occasional to little supplemental watering once established.
