California Natives at Suncrest Nurseries Inc.

Though Suncrest Nurseries offers interesting plants from several continents, including much of the United States, a few of us are almost obsessively devoted to the native plants of California. We regularly stalk the wilds, always with at least a semiconscious "eye out" for potentially gardenworthy natives, and we bring back seeds and cuttings from nearly every trip. We also rely on friends at several California botanic gardens, and on passionate native plant gardeners, who bring us their plant treasures for trial and possible introduction. All in all, it may be the best part of our work here, and we're privileged to be able to contribute a wide offering of beautiful natives to California horticulture.

Carpenteria californica 'Elizabeth' Bush anemone. 8-12 feet high. Clusters of many white fragrant flowers.
Ceanothus [arboreus x thyrs. var. griseus] 15-20 feet. Large growing ceanothus similar to 'Ray Hartman'. Leaves are smaller, flowers are bright blue.
Ceanothus [arboreus x thyrs. var. griseus] 10-20 feet; medium green shiny leaves, many blue flowers in spring.
Ceanothus 'Blue Cloud' 8-12 feet high and wide. Shiny green leaves; sky blue flowers are profuse.
Ceanothus 'Blue Jeans' Round, dense, to 6 feet. Small dark leaves, lavender flowers.
Ceanothus 'Blue Ray' 10 feet high, 15 feet wide. Dark textured leaves, deep blue flowers in long clusters.

Ceanothus cordulatus Mountain whitethorn. Stiff spreading habit. White flowers.
Ceanothus cuneatus--excellent form Buckbrush. Stiff arching stems, tiny leaves, scented cream flowers in spring.
Ceanothus 'Dark Star' 6 feet high, 12 feet wide; small leaves, masses of cobalt-blue flowers.
Ceanothus dentatus 'Bluette' 3-6 feet high, spreading. Small leaves, slender stems, bright blue flowers.
Ceanothus foliosus 'Berryhill' 2 feet; tiny, shiny leaves, small blue flower clusters.
Ceanothus 'Frosty Blue' 8 feet+. Rounded shrub/small tree, blue flowers from whitish buds in spring.
Ceanothus gloriosus 'Anchor Bay' To 3 feet high. Dense mound, large shiny leaves, lavender flowers in spring.
Ceanothus gloriosus 'Heart's Desire' 1 foot high by 4-5 feet wide, dark shiny leaves, lavender blue flowers.
Ceanothus gloriosus v. exaltatus 'Emily Brown' 4 feet high by 10 feet wide; mounding; holly-like leaves, purple flowers.
Ceanothus gloriosus v. porrectus 'Mt. Vision' Mounds to 1-2 feet high, 7 feet wide. Bright blue flowers, rounded leaves.
